Geoff Butler today refused to relax despite seeing his Weymouth side all but secure their Dr Martens Premier Division status with a 1-0 victory at Hednesford Town on Saturday.

Lee Phillips scored the all-important goal that moves the Terras eight places and seven points clear of the relegation trap door.

One more win should be enough for the Wessex Stadium outfit, but the boss is warning against complacency.

He said: “It was a terrific result and performance. Hednesford away was one of the games we thought we could win and it’s nice to be proven right.

“The three points go a long way to securing our future but I’ve been around long enough not to get carried away. There’s always a twist in the tail of promotion and relegation battles and they normally come about when a side starts getting complacent.

“I’ve seen it happen before. Teams think they’re safe and then, before they know it, they’re back in trouble again.”

He added: “I think it will take a big balls-up on our part to go down now and I reckon one more win against either Dover, Bath, Hastings or Crawley will do it. But until such time that we are mathematically safe, we’ll be taking nothing for granted.”

The win at Hednesford was made all the more pleasing by the fact that for the first time in weeks, the Terras boss had no new injury blows to deal with.

Everyone came through unscathed including three players who passed late fitness tests – Ian Hutchinson, Michael Jackson and Jamie Impey.

The manager said: “It was nice to see players coming back from injury and even better that no one picked up any fresh knocks. I couldn’t believe it when Jacko said he was fit after a hamstring problem, but he went out there and did his bit as did Hutch and Jamie.

“It was a decent display and we could have scored three or four with a bit of luck. To be honest, Hednesford didn’t look very interested, but that’s taking nothing away from us.”

Meanwhile, Butler revealed he is planning to give most of his senior staff a rest for tomorrow night’s Dorset Senior Cup final against Dorchester Town at the Avenue Stadium.

He explained: “I won’t be bringing down any of the lads who live away and I won’t use many of the local first teamers either.

“The side will be made up of fringe players and reserves and perhaps a couple who are coming back from injury. We want to win the cup, that goes without saying. However, we’ve got more important things like the league to worry about and I’m sure Mark Morris feels the same.”
