Hill eyeing seven new signings

BOSS Garry Hill is lining up seven summer signings as he aims to turn Weymouth into a Conference South force next season.

But the Terras manager – who has already secured the return of full-back Steve Tully – insists he will not rush to bring fresh blood to the Wessex Stadium.

He told Echosport: “I’m looking to bring in seven players to the club over the summer if I can.

“But I won’t rush and dive right in – the players have to be right for Weymouth, in terms of ability and cost.

“I’m not going to throw money at people left, right and centre.

“The people who come in will be on sensible terms and won’t be here just to boost their bank balance.

“As a manager, it’s important you don’t rush deals at this time of year just for the sake of it.

“There are a lot of players available all wanting clubs and with the Football League now operating a transfer window across divisions, I’m sure there will be a lot more this year.

The knock-on effect of that for clubs like Weymouth will probably be positive because a better standard of player will be available.”

Hill is planning to sit tight on a number of transfer targets because they are currently contracted to Football League clubs.

He said: “I’ve travelled all over the country talking to players in the last few weeks and will continue to do that.

A number of players we’re interested in are contracted with Football League clubs until June 30 so nothing can be done until then.

“But there are other people around who I’m keeping my fingers crossed we can persuade to join us before then.”
