Four on the spin for Terras

SCOTT Walker grabbed the winner at the Meadow last night as the Terras chalked up their fourth straight win on the road in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

The Weymouth skipper fired home direct from a set-piece just before the hour after team-mate Craig Duff had cancelled out Chris Watters’ deflected opener.

Chesham then had James Potton sent off late on allowing the visitors to see out the closing stages with relative ease.

Following last Saturday’s victory at Bedford Town, Brendon King resisted the temptation to tinker with his starting XI, despite Kyle Critchell being back from suspension.

The defender was included on a strong bench though, alongside Chris Povall, Lewis Clarke, Dan Smith and Matt Groves.

The Terras made a bright start with Stephen Reed seeing a long-range effort tipped over the crossbar but the opening exchanges were fairly even.

Home keeper Shane Gore then produced another fine stop at the feet of Duff before Watters cut in from the right and fired past Simon Evans on 21 minutes with the aid of a big deflection off the unfortunate Ashley Wells to put the hosts in front.

That goal was harsh on the Terras but just two minutes later they were back on level terms when Duff headed home a corner at the far post.

Weymouth continued pressing and just after the half-hour they created another opportunity when Reed’s superb diagonal pass found Ed Palmer, whose effort was well held by Gore.

Both teams looked well matched and just before the break Evans had to be at his best to re-adjust and stop a fine lob from Potton. Bruce Wilson then struck wide for the Generals from a free-flowing counter-attack as the half drew to a close with the game still finely balanced.

The Terras enjoyed the majority of the possession in the opening 45 minutes while the hosts appeared happy to play on the break, and it was a pattern that continued at the start of the second period.

Potton picked up a booking not long after the restart, but nothing else of note really took place until the 57th minute when Walker put the Terras ahead with a fantastic free-kick that left Gore with no chance.

United then replied with a looping header that struck the crossbar just two minutes later, before Reed let fly with another long-range effort at the other end that cannoned off a post.

With the Generals chasing an equaliser the game was becoming stretched, but the Terras remained solid and even refreshed their frontline with a double substitution that saw Ben Joyce and Mark Ford make way for Dan Smith and Matt Groves with 13 minutes remaining.

Critchell then came on for Duff moments later before Potton lunged in on Clay in the closing stages, giving the referee no choice but to brandish a straight red card despite the Chesham man having already been booked.

That dismissal enabled the Terras to cruise through the last four minutes to wrap up another fantastic away performance.
