DEFENDER Pat Baldwin is determined to demonstrate that the Terras have a strong mentality and wants to banish any thoughts of last term’s collapse during the final third of this campaign.

The 33-year-old admitted that talk about the previous season’s demise, which saw Weymouth drop out of the play-off places, has started to annoy him.

The former Colchester United and Exeter City man, who was not part of the Terras’ squad which fell away so badly last term having signed for the club last summer, is eager to look ahead rather than dwell on the past and believes Weymouth have all the capabilities to achieve big things this term.

He told Echosport: “There’s been a lot of talk about this collapse, it has been mentioned a hell of a lot this year. It’s something that’s started to annoy me a bit to be honest.

“We can’t get away from it, that’s what happened and that’s the fact from last year but I think we have a different mentality this year in the dressing room.

“They (the squad) have realised that they have talent in that dressing room and realised that, if you want to be successful, you need a winning mentality and a stronger mentality.

“I feel as though we have that. I think we’ve shown that numerous times this year where we have gone through a bit of a bad spell and responded well.

“With players like myself and the older heads, we will do our best to make sure that (a collapse) doesn’t happen.

“You can’t ever guarantee anything in life but I will certainly be doing my bit to make sure it doesn’t.”

He added: “We have been through a lot this year as a squad. Our experiences will bring it all together I think.

“We have learnt a lot and I really do think that we will stick a run of results together. We have a good changing room and that will stand us in good stead.”

The Terras will be looking to bounce back once again on Saturday when they visit Hungerford Town (3pm).
