WEYMOUTH Football Club chairman Chris Pugsley has called for supporters to get behind the Terras’ ongoing quest to secure a new ground at a meeting with fans at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The club announced they had made progress last week after reaching a settlement on the dispute concerning the land surrounding the Bob Lucas Stadium with developers Wessex Delivery LLP.

While Weymouth’s scheduled home game against Cirencester Town was postponed due to safety concerns with the main stand on Saturday following high winds that had ripped off a section of the structure, supporters of the club stayed on in the club bar to hear an update on progress from the board and solicitor Gareth Jones.

Mr Jones indicated that as well as a settlement between the two parties being reached, a new “development agreement” had been put in place as Weymouth Football Club and Wessex Delivery LLP look to work together.

Addressing the supporters, Jones said: “You have an entirely new option agreement with Wessex Delivery and you have a totally new document called a development agreement.

“The development agreement talks about what can happen moving forward.

“Weymouth Football Club is going to be at the centre of absolutely everything moving forward.

“There is now a formal board where Weymouth Football Club has equal representation with Wessex Delivery. That board will make all the decisions to move forward with the new facility, if that can be secured.”

Mr Pugsley was keen to thank his fellow Terras’ board members for their efforts in negotiations, and reiterated the need for positivity among supporters.

He added: “The main message that I want to put out is that a lot of work has been done over the last three years by Alan Pepperell and Tony Greaves (directors of the club) with the assistance of Gareth Jones, and we have made massive progress.

“They have invested their time for three years and we need to get behind what they have done.

“We are now in the driving seat to push this whole project forward.

“If you are a proper Weymouth Football Club supporter, get behind the club, move the project forward and lets make it work.”
