JASON Matthews has labelled the Terras’ test at Hungerford Town this evening as “crucial”, as they hit the road for the second time in three days (7.45pm).

Following Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Slough Town in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, the Terras are currently six points adrift of the play-off spots and six points behind the fourth-placed Crusaders, who won 2-0 away at Stratford Town on Saturday.

Looking ahead to tonight’s clash, player-manager Matthews told Echosport: “We are right in the melting pot and it’s another crucial game and another tough place to go in Hungerford.

“It’s another game where you have to look to not be beaten. The next three games are against teams that are around us and we need to take some points.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s stalemate against the Rebels, Matthews added: “I would say it was a very frustrating day at the office against a very stubborn Slough team on a very bobbly pitch.

“We couldn’t get the ball down in the final third of the pitch because the pitch wouldn’t allow that.

“It didn’t allow you to play conducive football but, at the end of the day, we have kept a clean sheet and that was a game last year we would have lost.

“It’s still a good away point, it keeps the momentum going.”

The Terras’ boss also gave an update on the knee injury picked up by defender Pat Baldwin.

“He needs to get the swelling down for him to have any chance,” he added.

“At the moment he’s not managing to get that swelling down. He is doing all he can.

“Pat is an influential figure in our dressing room but I thought Jake (Wannell) was fantastic on Saturday.”
