JASON Matthews believes that number two goalkeeper Steve Boore has made “great progress” since linking up with the Terras and is monitoring his chances of turning out for the first team in the league next season.
Former Chickerell United man Boore, who featured during the final of the Terras’ Dorset Senior Cup win over Gillingham Town in April, has agreed to stay with the club next season, according to the player-manager.
And Matthews, who is set to don the gloves once again next term himself, is happy with Boore’s development as part of the set-up at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
Asked about his fellow gloveman, Matthews told Echosport: “I think he made great progress last year and, if he continues that progress, there is no doubt that he will be challenging for a spot this season.
“He wants to spend more time with the first team, which is fine. I have no problem with that and it may be a case that he overtakes me at some point and that’s where we are at.
“It’s all about experience and you only get experience by playing at the level, so we will keep monitoring him and, when I feel the time is right for him to play, he will play.”
Matthews added: “A couple of other keepers have phoned me this week and we may well have a look at them during pre-season as well.”
