JASON Matthews insists the injuries picked up by new recruits Sam Jordan and Charlie Davis are “nothing serious” as his side fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Exeter City tonight.

Striker Jordan, who started the game up front, was helped off after just 20 minutes of his first appearance in a Weymouth shirt having sustained an ankle injury.
Davis then also suffered the same fate late on after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Asked for an update on the duo following the game, in which Exeter’s Jordan Moore-Taylor and Robbie Simpson scored either side of half-time for the Grecians, Matthews told Echosport: “Sam just rolled his ankle and it’s the same for Charlie. Obviously they will be icing them tonight but it’s nothing serious.

“Sam was in a bit of discomfort but he said he has rolled his ankle before and it is nothing major.”

As expected, the Terras handed starts to trialists Dan Thomas and Dan Smith for the encounter against the Grecians, who fielded former Weymouth loanees Connor Riley-Lowe and Jamie Reid in the clash.

Asked about the performances of the trialists, Matthews replied: “I think that they didn’t disgrace themselves. I felt the likes of Dan Thomas did very well and also Dan Smith.

“The two young lads that came on at full-back also did well and I feel they are good prospects.”

He added: “We gave a good account of ourselves and played some nice stuff at times.”

With Exeter fielding a host of different players throughout the night Moore-Taylor headed in from a corner just short of the break to notch the opener. The game was wrapped up on 72 minutes when Simpson’s low drive also found the net.

Terras: Thomas (Boore 70), Wells (James 64), Cooper (Marques 64), Evans, Wannell (Butcher 46), Brooks (Michie 70), Smith (Thomson 64), Lowes, Jordan (Jevon 21), Molesley (Copp 46), Shephard (Davis 46).
