JASON Matthews will have to contend with some “nice headaches” before tomorrow’s game with Merthyr Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium (3pm).

His squad players didn’t disappoint in their midweek Dorset Senior Cup win over Verwood Town with Sam Jordan particularly impressing after scoring a first-half hat-trick, giving his boss some food for thought ahead of the weekend.

Speaking about his selection dilemmas, Matthews told Echosport: “I’ve got a slightly larger squad and that does come with some nice headaches.

“I don’t like leaving people out but, if you want to be successful then that is something you need to do.”

The Terras have had a solid week in cup competitions. Not only have they advanced in the Dorset Senior Cup but, also in the Buildbase FA Trophy thanks to a brace from Conor Jevon – another player pushing for a first-team spot against the Martyrs.

Speaking about tomorrow’s opponents, he added: “It will be a tough game. Our home form has been good of late and we go in their with a lot of confidence.

“I’m looking forward to playing Merthyr. They are one of the top sides and a team that play football and it will be a good game.

“We’ve had good results in the two cups. We can only win with what has been put in front of us and we’ve done that and we’ve addressed our dip in form.”

Matthews chose to rest a portion of his squad in midweek including the likes Jake Wannell, Stewart Yetton, Stephane Zubar and Calvin Brooks.

“We will be monitoring the fitness of Aaron Rodriguez, Chris Shephard and Ben Thomson,” the player-manager explained.

Their opponents currently sitting fifth in the league standings. They are unbeaten at home on their 3G pitch but, have won just two of their 10 games on their travels this season.

* After tomorrow’s fixture, the football club will be hosting a fireworks display. The event will start at approximately 5pm.
