JASON Matthews feels that striker Stuart Fleetwood could be the experienced head his side needs over the coming weeks.

The veteran frontman, who has played for the likes of Cardiff, Brighton and Exeter throughout his time in the game, extended his loan deal with the club for another month earlier on Monday.

After a stop-start initial month’s loan from Bath City, having been unable to play in the FA Trophy, Fleetwood looked to have found his feet in Terras’ colours with a positive performance in the 2-1 win over Frome Town on Tuesday night.

And, having also revealed that Fleetwood is now available to play in the FA Trophy against Poole Town this weekend, after getting permission by Bath City to use him in the competition, Matthews is hoping the frontman can make a big impact.

“I felt on Tuesday we saw the real Stuart Fleetwood, having got 70 minutes under his belt on Saturday,” the Terras’ boss told Echosport.

“In the case of Fleets I felt the first month went against him and us. We couldn’t use him to the best of our ability with him being cup tied for two games and the Hayes & Yeading game in the league getting called off.

“With the loss of Yetts (Stewart Yetton) for a few weeks we needed someone to step up to the plate and, not only did he do that on the pitch on Tuesday, he used his experience in the dressing room and drove a few of the younger lads on, which is pleasing to see from a loanee.

“The main thing for me is that he showed the desire to be at Weymouth Football Club.”
