Weymouth held in stalemate with relegation-threatened Hayes & Yeading

HAYES & YEADING 0

WEYMOUTH 0

WEYMOUTH were held to a 0-0 draw against relegation-threatened Hayes & Yeading United in a frustrating stalemate.
The Terras went into the match looking to extend their unbeaten run to six games, which has seen a series of much-improved recent displays including Saturday’s battling performance to secure a 2-2 draw with Merthyr Town.
Jason Matthews made just one change for the Middlesex match-up, bringing Mark Molesley into the starting line-up to replace Charlie Davis, while Sean Stewart took his place on the bench. Jordan Copp remained sidelined through suspension.

The build-up wasn’t ideal for the visitors, who arrived at the ground late, leading to an unorthodox move of carrying out the team-talk on the pitch just moments before the game got underway.
But this didn’t affect the tempo of the opening stages, as Hayes won two early corners before Stuart Fleetwood had a chance which he rattled against the post with a good effort from a tight angle after nine minutes.
Fleetwood had another chance moments later when he fired wide from distance, before the hosts tested Tom McHale with a lobbed effort from distance.
The half appeared to settle down for large spells, but on the stroke of half-time Weymouth went close again, as Fleetwood played the ball through to Calvin Brooks who had his effort well saved by the keeper.
Both sides picked up where they left off in the second half as they took it in turns to threaten the opposition.
First McHale was forced into a superb save to halt an acrobatic effort from going into the top corner, before Hayes went close again when they headed just wide from a corner.
Weymouth also had opportunities to score as Fleetwood missed another effort when he put his 20-yard free-kick over the bar, before Billy Lowes’ tame effort was easily saved by the Hayes keeper.
But it wasn’t to be as neither side did enough to get the breakthrough, with both Weymouth and the hosts sharing the points on a frustrating evening for the Terras.
