WEYMOUTH have announced the appointment of Mark Molesley as the club’s new manager.

The 36-year-old steps up to the permanent position after a caretaker spell in charge alongside Paul Maitland, who is staying on as his assistant-manager.

Molesley, a former England C international, was a player-coach to former boss Jason Matthews at Weymouth this season and also stepped up to manage AFC Bournemouth’s under-21 squad on an interim basis.

The new boss is also set to add to his backroom staff with brothers Tom and Joe Prodomo coming in as head coach and player-goalkeeping coach respectively.

Speaking exclusively to Echosport, Molelsey said: “I am very honoured and privileged to be given the opportunity and I’m really looking forward to the challenges ahead.

“The lure of the club with its fantastic fan base, as well as the size and potential of the club is big.

“They were big factors of why I wanted to get involved with the club and why players want to play for the club.

“I think it’s a really interesting project with huge potential.”

Molesley was chosen ahead of a number of experienced candidates, understood to have included Gosport boss Alex Pike, former Eastleigh manager Chris Todd and ex-Weymouth, Torquay and Exeter defender Steve Tully, who also managed Truro in National South.
