WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley was full of praise for his ‘young pups’ performance away to Bridport on Tuesday.

Despite losing 2-0 the Terras manager saw a lot of positives in the performances of his young players.

Mark Molesley said: “Our young pups were brave got on the ball, kept wanting the ball and kept trying to do the things we were asking for.”

On the 64th minute Derek Wall and Will Waldon came on for Harry Baker and Mark Cooper respectively.

It was tough experience however as Derek Wall had to come off after 18 minutes following an ankle injury.

Molesley said: “It was a shame, it’s good to see a young player come on and unfortunately it didn’t last that long.”

The Terras boss remained upbeat however: “There were loads of positives out there. I’m pleased with their bravery kept wanting to get on the ball against a big, strong Bridport side, they were a good side, big strong and physical.”

The performance came after some of the youths had played for their other clubs the night before meaning the team may have lacked a bit of energy.

The Weymouth manager said: “We saw potential in all of them out there so it gives us all food for thought.”

Dane James played for Weymouth in the match despite being loaned out to opponents Bridport.

James, who usually plays at right back, played for the Terras in central defence for the whole match.

James said: “It was always going to be difficult for myself because obviously I’m on loan to them but I had to do the best for the club I’m signed on for.

“It’s always good to play with your mates from the club but it was always nice to see the young players coming through as well.”

The match also saw trialist River Smith play for Weymouth with his performances for Ringwood Town having brought him to attention.

The Terras boss said: “We had him in training, we’ve had a look and been impressed by a couple of bits we’ve seen. We’ve seen again tonight he can be a threat at the right time.”
