CALLUM Buckley believes Weymouth’s previous win against today’s opponents Chesham United in December was significant in the Terras’ season in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

The 1-0 victory, which Buckley played the whole match, saw Weymouth take the lead in the 19th minute before going down to 10 men in the 28th minute but the Terras held firm.

Buckley said: “I think that game was really significant in our season, we showed a different side to us that a lot of people have not seen before. We showed a lot of character to be down to 10 men and still get the victory.”

“We had to dig deep and for me that is a significant time in our season where we had to show what we are really capable of we can play but we can also fight out when we need to.”

It will mark the start of a tough eight days for the Terras, as after Chesham they host Slough Town in midweek before travelling to potential play-off opponents Kettering Town.

Buckley, speaking prior to the announcement of the rearrangement of the Slough Town fixture, said: “Both teams Chesham and Kettering are both good sides, we know that, we knew that from the start, but every game is tough in this league. I think we know that we have had to work really hard as a team this year to win games.”

Buckley is looking for the Terras to focus on themselves and the positives of the squad, that include the league’s top goalscorer in Brandon Goodship.

Buckley said: “We have to focus on ourselves because we have got some really good players here at this football club.

“It is brilliant to play with everyone and I think we all just need to believe in ourselves that we can get a positive result and that is all we need to focus on.”

Buckley, speaking about the squad, is happy that the team are fit, in good spirits and raring to go ahead of a busy end to the season that could see them make the play-offs.

Buckley said: “We are all as players really looking forward to the next few games coming up until the end of the season.

“We have got a tough run in but we are all looking for the three points in every game and to just get as many points as we can for us on the board from now until the end of the season. That is all we are looking to do. “

Weymouth’s previously postponed game at home to Slough Town has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 27.
