WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley said he is looking to see his side grow as a group as they prepare to start their pre-season training today at Blandford School.

The Terras were knocked out at the play-off semi-final stage with a 3-0 defeat away at King’s Lynn Town after finishing fifth with 97 points in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division and Molesley admits he has reflected upon the previous season.

Molesley said: “I think upon reflection of last season, it ended disappointingly, everyone was gutted with the last game but it was a good season on the whole. I feel that we built a lot of strong foundations and everyone is excited to try and build upon that.

“We are a year on now into a project and the players are now a year older, a year wiser with a year’s more experience and we are looking to grow as a group and carry on the good work from last year.”

The Terras have largely kept that squad that finished fifth with only Calvin Brooks departing to join the Army, while Will Dennis and Thiago Caze Da Silva left following the expiry of their loan and contract respectively.

Weymouth have since signed Jordan Seabright, Warren Bentley from Poole Town and Tony Lee from AFC Totton.

They have also been bolstered by the addition of goalkeeping coach Robbie Yates.

Everyone will report back for the first session, while the Terras had an initial testing session on Tuesday night.

Molesley said: “I think everyone is excited to get back, the hard work starts again.”

When asked what he expects to see at the first session, Molesley said: “I am just looking for the boys to turn up with the right attitude and right effort.

“It is what our whole team was built on last year: hard work and attention to detail, we will definitely keep with that mantra.”

Molesley praised his players, expressing confidence that he has exactly what he is looking for from his players with regards to their attitude and approach.

Molesley said: “I am sure that I have got the right characters I have got the right players. I know they are going to turn up with the right attitude so I think we are all just itching to get to work now.

“As a player going back to pre-season you are excited but then you also know that you have got to start a lot of hard work so I think they are keen just to get the first two weeks out of the way and then start shaking themselves ready for the season.”

“We are in a lot better place than we were this time last season. The team is in place, we have got a year’s togetherness behind us.

“We have got a group that want to learn and that want to get better, and I think it is important to keep our feet on the floor and we are ready to work hard and try to improve in every session.”
