CHARLIE Davis admitted that game time was a prime factor in his decision to leave Weymouth for Poole Town this week, which was announced on Tuesday morning.

Davis rejoins the Dolphins having originally left them for Dorchester in 2015, before signing for Weymouth a year later.

Davis said: “At the moment, I am finding that the opportunities are less and less to play and that is a testament to the players that they have there.

“So I think Weymouth and myself felt like it was the right time, I am only 23 and I need to be playing so it was the right time to see if there were other avenues that I could explore in terms of getting game time.”

Davis admits that it was not something he saw coming at the start of the season and spoke of his love for the Terras.

Davis said: “It has been really difficult, to be honest, not obviously something at the start of the season I thought would be happening.

“I love the club, I love the people there, I love the players, I think it is a brilliant club that is sort of only going in one direction but I am young, I came to Weymouth and for the last two and a bit years I have been playing regularly.”

Davis admits he had a few offers but spoke of his reasoning for going to the Dolphins, who he made a late appearance off the bench for in their 3-2 defeat to Gosport on Tuesday.

Davis said: “I had a few offers, Poole is where I live, I have been there before it is a very ambitious club. They have got some fantastic players themselves and I want to play at the highest standard I can and most sort of appealing place to go I think.”

Davis also spoke of the season so far, during which he made four starts for the Terras and four appearances from the bench.

Davis said: “I started the first three league games of the season and then Josh Wakefield came in and did really well, he has done really well so far this season.

“My game time was just more and more limited.

“I was coming on as a sub but not really getting any real minutes.

“I think me and Moles have got quite a good relationship and we always have had and he was fairly honest with me and said it is going to be difficult for you to get back into the side at the moment.”

Davis is happy with how his time came to an end at Weymouth however, despite admitting that he is ‘not over the moon’ to be leaving.

Davis said: “We (Davis and Mark Molesley) had a chat and we spoke and I think it has been left with no sort of bad feeling with me or anyone at the club and it has been handled really well from their side. I can only thank them enough for the opportunity over the last couple of years.

“I am happy with how it has come to a close, I am not sort of over the moon to be leaving because it is a fantastic club but Poole again are a big club in this league and they will be right up there this season no doubt so it is a chance for me to go in and push on again.”
