BEN Thomson has spoken of the difference the fans make, after he delighted them with a brilliant strike during Weymouth’s 4-0 demolition of the Met Police on Tuesday.

In front of a bumper crowd of 1,153, Thomson lashed in brilliantly from 25 yards to put the Terras 3-0 up against title rivals the Met Police, in a win that puts Weymouth five points clear at the top of the table.

Thomson told Echosport: “The crowd were just a different level. I said to the lads before the game you would not fancy anyone coming here, when we have got fans like that, and getting a result so it really does literally make a difference.”

Explaining his strike, Thomson added: “It is one of those, as soon as I hit it I knew it was going in.

“It would have been out of character not to hit it, I could hear Goody (Brandon Goodship) in the background saying leave it but I just thought hit it and it has obviously flew in and took us over the line really.”

Thomson is pleased with the Terras’ performances and feels they have cut out little errors.

Thomson said: “In the last sort of seven or eight games I feel like we have really tightened up silly little mistakes and just cut out what we have needed to cut out really.”

“We don’t concede four goals to be honest and we can only put that (in the reverse fixture, the 4-4 draw) as a blip really.”

Weymouth host the already-relegated Staines Town today (3pm) but Thomson says they do not let the table get in their head.

When asked if they pay much attention to the table, Thomson replied: “No not really, Moles (manager Mark Molesley) and Tom (Prodomo) emphasise it is just another game really. You can’t let that (the table) get in your head because Staines we will turn up and get rolled over if we do not go with the right attitude.”
