Champions of the Central League against Champions of the South league. The two Southern League champions pit their wits against each other on Saturday to see who is the best team amongst the two divisions and take home the Southern League shield.

While there is the shield riding on this game, the game doesn’t have any implications on promotion or determining any league outcome, however the two managers will instruct their teams to go out and not treat it as a friendly and make sure their teams play to their full potential, which will provide a quality game for the fans attending. This should mean that it will be a party atmosphere at Kettering with promotion already being secured.

Kettering Town topped the Southern League Central with 94 points and a goal difference of +43. They won the league at a canter with a huge margin of 14 points ahead of nearest rivals Kings Lynn who came 2nd with 80 points. Kettering won the league on 13th April when they defeated Halesowen Town 0-1 away from home.

Meanwhile for Weymouth, they won the Southern league South with 86 points on the final day of the season with a 3-0 win over Farnborough, goals coming from Odubade, Goodship and Thomson. The Terras only won the league by 1 point ahead of Taunton Town, who finished on 85 points but were defeated in the semi final of the playoffs by Poole Town on penalties on Wednesday night. The title win for Weymouth was the first since the 2005/06 season when they topped the Conference South and were promoted to the top tier of the non-league game.

The two teams met last season in the league campaign as the Southern Central league was only formed this season. The two fixtures saw the home team win both matches. At the Bob Lucas Stadium Weymouth won the game 3-1, and then the reverse fixture saw a 2-0 win for Kettering.

Kettering have had a very impressive home form this season with their record standing at Played 21; Won 14, Drawn 1 and Lost 6.
