FORMER Weymouth player William Pitney would have celebrated his 100th birthday on Tuesday, with the Terras’ star racking up 121 appearances and numerous honours.
Pitney, who passed away in 1984, made 88 appearances for the first team, and 33 appearances for the reserves.
He scored 20 goals during his two spells at Weymouth, and also spent time at Portland and Dorchester Town.
Pitney was born in London, but moved down to Weymouth during the war years as a sailor in the Royal Navy.
He then set up home in Dorset and saw success during his time with Weymouth, Dorchester Town and Portland United, spending his last four years as a footballer in the area with the Blues.
In total he won 11 honours, including being on both the winning and losing side of the Dorset Senior Cup final.
