Weymouth ease past Hammers

WEYMOUTH coasted to a straight forward 3-1 victory at Hamworthy United in their first pre-season friendly at the County Ground.

Two separate trialists got the first two goals inside seven minutes, while a third was added after 73 minutes, with the Hammers halving the deficit for 14 minutes.

The Hammers struggled in the first 25 minutes of the half, and Weymouth restrained Hamworthy to just two shots prior to the break.

Brett Williams and Ollie Harfield, new Weymouth recruits, had slight chances for the Terras in the first half.

The second half was mired by a suspected broken arm suffered by Hamworthy’s Elliott Hartnell-Baker.

Hamworthy hit back after 59 minutes, when a well-struck free-kick was saved by a trialist in the Weymouth goal, before the rebound was nodded in by Jamie Guthrie.

After 73 minutes, the game was wrapped up when a Josh McQuoid shot struck the post and a trialist chested into the net, despite protests of offside from the home fans.

This was the last meaningful action, as it ended 3-1 to Weymouth.

After the match, Terras’ boss Molesley said: “I am really pleased, I thought the attitude and application from the lads was first class. I am really pleased with the opposition Hamworthy, they are a good side, they gave us a really good game, a good run out.”
