WEYMOUTH FC Supporters Club is to undergo a major revamp in the New Year.
Chairman James Murphy and his management committee are planning to make the club ‘more attractive’ for fans of all ages.
Mr Murphy, who was recently co-opted onto the Terras board of directors following the death of stalwart Arthur Dyke, said: “Weymouth has always boasted one of the best supporter’s clubs in non-League football and members should be proud of their fundraising efforts over the years.
“But there is a danger that things can get a stale if you don’t make changes now and again and from that point of view I have spent the past year just sitting back and considering what improvements we can make.
“My conclusion is that we lack the regular social activities that bond members together and create that all important community feel and so we’ll be seeing what we can do to improve the situation.”
To that end, the Supporter’s Club have drawn up a list of proposals which they hope to implement over the coming months.
They include:
Social Diary: A diary of social events to include quizzes, race nights, dances, forums and reunions. Also planned are regular shopping trips and excursions to the Channel Islands.
Junior Terras Club: The introduction of regular coaching sessions for members of the successful Junior Terras Club and visits to Premiership grounds and matches.
Terras Exiles Club: A new club for out-of-town-based supporters where members will be able to access matchday programmes and special newsletters, via the Internet.
Travel Club: The relaunch of the Weymouth Supporters Club Travel Club in which members can benefit from subsidised coach travel to all Terras away games (membership numbers permitting).
“There’s plenty going on”, said Mr Murphy, “and hopefully these sort of things will help the club grow which, in turn, means we can donate even more money to the parent club to be used for building a successful football team for the town.
“For an annual fee of just £2.50, Supporters Club membership is great value and there are also many other benefits such as discounts, special offers and matchday insurance.
“We are always on the look out for new members and there are always vacancies on the management committee. Also we’re open to new ideas and I’d urge anyone with an interest to give me a call.”
He concluded: “The Supporters Club is there for the benefit of all fans. These are exciting times and so why not join in the fun and help support your local team.”

*The Supporters Club has scrapped its annual Christmas Dance and will instead be organising a Grand End of Season dinner dance.
