Weymouth, Dorchester, Portland and Bridport have all been kept apart in the draw for the quarter-finals of the Dorset Senior Cup.

If holders Weymouth beat Wareham Rangers tonight they will host minnows Cranborne. After back-to-back promotions, the former Dorset Combination League outfit now play their football five divisions below the Terras in the Dorset League Division One which they currently lead after only one defeat in their nine matches.

The villagers’ 2-1 win away to Bournemouth Sports of the Elite Teamwear Dorset Premier was the shock of the weekend’s third round ties.

Terras boss Geoff Butler said if his side gets through tonight’s third round clash with Wareham Rangers they will give Cranborne the respect they deserve.

“For all these little clubs coming to Weymouth is like a cup final,” he said.

Dorchester’s quarter-final tie at home to Dorset Premier League title chasers Hamworthy United is a repeat of last year’s Senior Cup clash at the County Ground.

United, who are still managed by former Dorchester defender Shaun Bartlett, were beaten 4-1 on that occasion with the the Magpies goals coming from Marcus Oldbury, Matt Lonnon (2) and Justin Keeler.

After coming through a tough tie away to Gillingham on Saturday, Bridport should find it easier at home to Dorset Premier League strugglers Swanage Town and Herston who scraped through with an extra-time win against Senior League Dorchester United at the weekend.

Blues boss Nick Preston reckoned his side drew the short straw with their home tie against fellow Jewson Wessex Leaguers Wimborne Town.

“That is probably the draw we wanted least because we would rather not have played someone from the same division and we are already at Wimborne in the league on Boxing Day,” he said.

“But we are certainly capable of beating them and being at home should give us a good chance of going through to the semis.”

The quarter-final ties will be played on either Tuesday, January 7 or Wednesday, January 8 as all the home clubs have floodlights.
