Mark Robinson was left cursing his luck following Weymouth’s impressive goal less draw at promotion-chasing Stafford Rangers on Saturday.

The in-form Terra was forced out of the action early in the second half after pulling up with a groin strain.

Robinson, who has been outstanding since becoming Lee Phillips’ latest striking partner, now rates himself ‘very doubtful’ for the Boxing Day trip to Tiverton Town.

“I’m gutted,” he said. “Everything was just beginning to go right for me again and then I pick up an injury like this. To be honest it just does my head in and it couldn’t have come at a worse time. I don’t know whether I could play up front for a whole season, but I’ve really been enjoying the role since Julian Charles got injured and I love playing alongside Lee because I think our games compliment each other well. I went and had some treatment with physio Malcolm Coe when I got back from Stafford on Saturday and I was back down the club having some more yesterday morning.”

He added: “The problem is that the groin is very sore at the moment and my gut feeling is that I won’t have recovered in time for Tiverton on Boxing Day.”

Despite being without the Browne brothers Simon (suspended) and Alex (injured), the Terras gave a good account of themselves at Marston Road.

Robinson added: “I thought we might really struggle without Simon and Alex, but Toby Redwood came in and did really well on his debut. He’s big and strong and works hard and I think he’ll prove to be a big asset to the squad. Mark Kenway was also outstanding at the back and it’s amazing to that neither him or Toby have played much football in recent weeks. Stafford started the stronger and Jason Matthews had to pull off a couple of great saves early on, but we got back into it by playing some good football on a bad pitch and we created a few very good chances. Lee forced one really good save from their keeper and then Michael Sajic popped up at the end and cracked a shot against the post and the ball very nearly rolled into the net from there. We probably would have taken a draw before the game, but in the end we were a little unlucky not to win it.”

Meanwhile, hopes of a quiet Christmas day at home with the family have been blown away following Robinson’s injury.

“I’ve managed to talk Malcolm into giving me some treatment on Christmas Day,” added Robinson, “and so there’s still an outside chance that I’ll be okay for Tiverton.”
