STEVE Johnson has set a play-off target of nine wins from Weymouth’s final 13 games.

The Terras boss is urging his side to put a run of victories together after last weekend’s setback against Welling United.

And with games to come against high-flying rivals Grays, Hornchurch, Lewes and Cambridge City, Johnson insists the Terras can still make the Conference South play-offs.

He told Echosport: “I’ve worked out what I think we would need to qualify for the play-offs and, realistically, we need nine wins from our remaining 13 games.

“That is going to be a really tough task but we’ve got to be confident and believe we can do it.

“Out of all the sides competing for the play-offs, I’d say we’ve probably got the toughest run in of the lot.

“We’ve got games against leaders Grays, who are on fire, Hornchurch, Lewes and Cambridge in the remaining months and they will show us what we are made of.

“They will be great indicators of how far we’ve come as a side and we’ve got to be looking to take points off these sides if we’re going to make the play-offs.

“What we need is a run of consistent victories and if we can do that and sneak into the play-offs, who knows what will happen come May?”

Johnson, who takes his young guns to lowly Redbridge this weekend, says the next four matches will be crucial in shaping his side’s season.

“The next four games are massive for us and we’ve got to look to put that disappointing defeat against Welling last Saturday firmly behind us” he said.

“In those four games, we’re up against Redbridge, Lewes, Sutton and Eastbourne and we’ve got to be looking at remaining unbeaten in those.

“If that happens, everyone will start to believe we can do it and confidence will be high for the remaining few games.

“But what is vital is that we don’t play as badly again as we did last weekend, and the players know that is the case.

“We’ve set high standards at this football club and what happened against Welling is just not acceptable.”
