GARRY Hill was delighted with his new Weymouth side who halted their slide down the Conference South table with a much-needed success at Maidenhead on Saturday.

Recalled outcasts Chukki Eribenne and Shaun Wilkinson joined skipper Matt Bound on the scoresheet in the 3-2 win at York Road.

The result ended a run of six games without a victory and sets the Terras up nicely for today’s home clash with Hill’s former club Hornchurch (3pm).

Hill told Echosport: “There’s nothing like a win to get lift the mood of a football club and hopefully this will help do that.

I’m really pleased with the players, not only for the win, but the manner of the performance.

“Myself and my team only had one training session with the squad before the game but, even so, the players took on board what we said and put it into action.

“The early goal from Chukki Eribenne certainly helped and I was pleased with all three of our goals.

“We wanted the players to concentrate t concentrate on getting bodies in the attacking penalty area and doing that paid off with three well taken goals.”

Both Eribenne, recalled from a loan stint at Farnborough, and Wilkinson impressed at York Road having had limited opportunities under ex-boss Steve Johnson.

“I was pleased with both Chukki, who I knew was a good striker before I joined the club, and Shaun Wilkinson,” said Hill.

“I gave them an opportunity today and they took it.

But it’s not about individuals, it’s about a squad who will all get chances between now and the end of the season to show whether they deserve a future at this football club.”

Hill dedicated the Berkshire success to Weymouth’s travelling fans who he said were a big reason for taking the Terras job.

“The fans have gone through a lot in recent times and hopefully this win will put a few smiles back on their faces,” he said.

“But I’m not getting carried away, this is only the beginning and there’s no point getting this win if we lose against Hornchurch.”

Hill, for whom Eribenne faces a late fit-ness test on a hamstring injury, regards today’s clash with the Urchins as ‘just another game’.

He said: “I may have been the Hornchurch manager earlier this season but I just regard this game as another three points on offer.”

Meanwhile goal hero Wilkinson said he hopes Hill’s arrival will signal a fresh start for him at the Wessex Stadium.

The midfielder is back in from the cold after being shipped out on loan to Havant and Waterlooville after an alleged spitting incident. Wilkinson said: “I just want to forget about everything that went on before.”
