Tame Weymouth are sunk by the Boatmen
By Dan Rose

A LIFELESS display from an experimental Terras’ XI saw them run out a disappointing second best against FA Vase winners Sholing at the Bob Lucas Stadium. The Weymouth outfit, with only two surviving starters from the 3-0 win at Hitchin in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division on Saturday, failed to book their place in the next round and were uninspiring throughout against the Boatmen.

The hosts did come close to opening the scoring on five minutes when a searching ball from Jamie West found Luke Winsper, who flicked the ball on for Tim Sills to head over the crossbar.

Tobi Adekunle then tested stand-in stopper Joe Prodomo at his near post and, after firing a warning shot, he opened the scoring on 19 minutes.

The winger created some space for himself on the angle, and struck a well-placed shot past a scrambling Prodomo, which nestled in the far corner as he cart-wheeled away in celebration. Terras’ wideman Tristan Plum-mer, a goalscorer in Saturday’s win at Top Field, then nearly doubled his tally for the club.

After switching flanks, he skipped past his man and drilled a low effort at Matt Brown in the visitors’ goal which was well held.

Conor Jevon then headed narrowly over from a corner, and Jamie Beasley unleashed a fierce strike which an outstretched Brown did well to tip over. But the Terras looked sloppy in possession in parts, and Alex Baldoc-hinno nearly made them pay.

He jinked away from a sea of static Weymouth bodies and drove the ball through the legs of a Terras’ defender to force a smart save as the home side went in at the break frustrated.

Winsper also had to be taken off as a precaution minutes before half-time and was replaced by Gareth Will for the hosts.

And it got worse for Weymouth, as throughout the second period they lacked a cutting edge.

Sholing were given a golden opportunity to seal the tie when Mason capitalised on some sloppy work once again, but as he got goalside of Callum Laird to go one-on-one with Prodomo, he lost his footing on the greasy surface.

Midfielder Alex Sawyer almost added to the Terras’ misery when the ball fell to him 20 yards out and his shot cannoned off an upright away to safety.

But the final nail in the coffin came as Prodomo parried a strike from distance straight into the path of Mason, who could not miss to put the Boatmen through.
