JORDAN Copp has called for the Terras’ support to stick with the current squad, despite having no FA Cup run to shout about this season.

The former Plymouth Argyle man, who has impressed operating further forward for the club this term, featured for around 55 minutes of the shock cup exit at Petersfield Town on Saturday.

While Copp admitted the 3-1 reverse left the entire squad feeling “gutted”, added in with the fact the Terras could have hosted Dorchester Town in the next round of the competition, he insists there is no point dwelling on what has already happened.

He told Echosport: “It was a big miss for us but we have to take responsibility for it. On the day, as a group and as individuals, we weren’t good enough, it’s as simple as that.

“I don’t think they (Petersfield) were any better than us, we just had a really poor outing.

“It’s important that we get on with it basically, there is no point in standing around thinking about it.

“We have big games coming up and can’t go into them moping.”

And Copp is now keen to repay the Weymouth faithful by providing them with a memorable league campaign.

He added: “We have to prove that we are ready to go up.

“Since I have been at the club I think the rapport between the players and supporters has been great.

“I think it’s important that the supporters stay with us and don’t get too downhearted if we don’t get a couple of results.

“I am sure that we will kick on and I have a lot of belief in this group that we will be up there at the end of the season.”

The youngster also commented on a recent situation where fans negatively reacted to Copp’s departure when he was substituted against Histon during a 1-0 home win earlier this month.

A response manager Jason Matthews said at the time was “tough to take”.

Copp added: “Nobody wants to come off and, like anyone, I get disappointed when I do come off.

“The thing is, where I am playing at the moment is a very strong position for us.

“You look at Saturday and we had Sheps (Chris Shephard) and Kells (Adam Kelly) on the bench, who were probably two of our best players last season.

“At the minute, keeping them out means I am obviously doing something right, impressing the right people and it means a lot to me as well that the supporters do get disappointed if I am brought off.”
