Return mission for Weymouth ace Winsper

LUKE Winsper’s quest to get match fit following his injury nightmare is well and truly underway.

The Weymouth midfielder spent a total of seven months on the sidelines with a foot problem that required an operation back in June.

Since his return, Winsper has clocked up game time for the club’s reserves against a Gosport Borough development squad and, most recently, against Alderholt in the Dorset Senior Trophy.

“It felt good coming back, I just need to get my fitness back up now,” he told Echosport.

“I felt alright while I was playing. It’s just afterwards when it aches a lot but I know it is going to happen.”

Coupled with training in the Terras’ ranks, Winsper is set to go on a dual-registration deal with Sherborne Town, a club he also featured for last season.

He is set to work with the Zebras and sign forms to play for the Western League outfit this evening.

He added: “I am training with Sherborne and signing on for them but I am not going to play for them just yet.

“I want a couple more games for the reserves and want to get 90 minutes in first.

“There have been a few clubs interested to be honest and it’s been a decision to make over the last month.

“But Sherborne looked after me last year, played me, I know Jamie (Manley, manager) and I know all the lads there. It makes sense to go there and it is 10 minutes from my house as well.

“I will still be training with the (Weymouth) first-team and will still be with the lads keeping up to their pace.

“I will probably be at Sherborne on dual registration for two or three months. I will be coming back to Weymouth for the cup games and, you never know when I could get my chance.”
