JASON Matthews is likely to give some of his big guns game time in the Terras’ trip to Wimborne Town in the first round of the Red Insure Cup tonight (7.45pm).

Pat Baldwin, Mark Molesley and Chris Shephard are all expected to feature at Cuthbury, while a handful of the club’s reserves will also get the opportunity to step up.

The Terras’ chief told Echosport: “There will be a strong side put out because people need games and it gives us a good chance to look at a couple of people as well.

“The likes of Pat Baldwin, Chris Shephard and Mark Molesley all need minutes, so three of my best players will be out on show.”

Assistant manager Tim Sills is also set to play, while Matthews is likely give himself a rest against the Magpies and hand the gloves to number two stopper Steve Boore.

Aston Butcher, Craig Michie and Dan Peart are also expected to be part of the visiting squad.

Commenting on the fresh faces who are set to come in, Matthews added: “They have been doing really well in the reserves and deserve a chance.

“A couple of them will start on the bench and Conor Jevon will come in as well. Some will actually start which gives me a good chance to look at what we have within the club.

“Their overall attitudes have been spot on this season and it has been noticeable. We have had good reports back on them, they have done well and deserve a chance.”

And while this particular cup is unlikely to be too high on the Terras’ list of priorities this term, Matthews believes progression in the competition will be beneficial.

He said: “Having a little run in this cup gives a few people, who obviously don’t play week in, week out, a chance to get 90 minutes under their belt.

“We go out to win every game and I will be expecting a performance at Wimborne.”

Speaking about fellow goalkeeper Boore, he added: “We need to see what he is about and if he can do it.

“He has his chance and we will see how he goes.”

Midfielder Dean Evans serves a one-match suspension against struggling Wimborne, who have picked up just seven points from their opening 10 games in the Southern League South & West.
