BOSS Bradley Asagba believes the Terras’ first-team are “taking a strong interest” in reserves’ defender Aston Butcher.

Butcher, who has been an integral part of the Terras’ second side this season, is someone who has highly impressed a range of people throughout the club of late.

Speaking about the defender, Asagba told Echosport: “He is somebody that I have rated really highly since I first came to the club when I played with him.

“This season, when I took over, he was one of those who had been courted by other teams. He was half-minded to leave having been at the club for a long time.

“I asked him to give me this season to see how the team develops.

“He is the fittest he has ever been, has shown that with his performances and I have made him captain.

“He has been consistently one of our best players if not the best player and, thanks to that hard work, the first-team are taking a strong interest in him.
“We definitely expect he will be featuring for the first team at some point sooner rather than later.

“The ball is in his court as to how much he wants it and how determined he is to do it.

“Coming from Pat (Baldwin), Paul (Maitland), Jason (Matthews), Micky (Greeno) and myself, we all believe he has the skill set to do so.”

Meanwhile, Asagba’s men booked their place in the next round of the Dorset Senior Trophy on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth League outfit Alderholt .

Ashley Ayley set the ball rolling for the Terras with a free-kick which found the net and James Bergin finished well to make it 2-0 before the break.

Alderholt then got back in it briefly from the penalty spot in a moment which the Terras’ boss found nonsensical.
“In the second-half it just descended into a kick fest to be honest,” he added.

“Their player literally did a Tom Daley dive over one of our players when he’s not even stuck his leg out and the referee gave a penalty.”

But striker Conor Jevon soon wrapped the game up for the visitors, finding the net to make it 3-1 after good work from Jacob Carter.

Asagba added: “I think it was a bit of culture shock to some of the lads. Even I didn’t know too much about them (Alderholt), it was a case of getting through it really.”
