JASON Matthews was elated with the way his side romped to victory against Slough Town on Saturday, claiming the victory was the “most complete performance” in his two years in charge.

The player-manager saw the Terras blitz through the Rebels’ backline, carving them open at will and finding the net on six occasions in the 6-1 victory.

Goals from Dean Evans, Ben Thomson (2), Chris Shephard, Mark Cooper and George Rigg ensured the rout for the home side, putting them seventh in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division with the second-best goal difference in the league behind leaders Poole.

And Matthews was happy that his gamble to leave out club skipper Stewart Yetton and adopt a change of system paid huge dividends.

“Playing a 4-2-3-1 is something we haven’t done since I have been in charge,” he explained.

“Chris Shephard, Mark Molesley and Adam Kelly revelled in their roles just behind Thommo.

“It left me with a lot of flair players on the pitch and, with Jordan Copp at left-back as well, it gives me a lot of forward thinking players.

“I want to produce a flair team and Weymouth people expect you to play good football, that’s what I want to do.

“It was probably the most complete performance from the boys since I have been in charge and I was very pleased.”

He added: “I felt right from the start we set the tone and Dean Evans was outstanding again.

“We want to stay in touch and I set my marker down for wanting to be in the play-offs this season and I feel we are still on course for that.”

* Solicitor Gareth Jones told Terras’ fans after the game that talks were still ongoing with regards to a potential new ground and stated that the club’s options have been much improved.
