Matthews delighted to be back between the sticks

TERRAS’ player-manager Jason Matthews expressed his delight in getting back between the sticks on Tuesday evening after his injury woes.

The player-boss made his first appearance in goal since mid-November in the 1-1 draw at Paulton Rovers.

Matthews has spent time out nursing an ongoing heel injury, but believed the extended absence also helped him develop as a manager in the meantime.

He told Echosport: “It was really nice to come back in and play because I love playing but it’s also been nice to look at things from the sidelines for myself.

“Making decisions and substitutions on the sideline is easier to do when you are there.”

And with the Terras’ manager now returning to action permanently following the departure of loan stopper Andrew Dawber, Matthews also reserved special praise for the impact assistant Tim Sills has had off the pitch so far this term.

“I have full faith in Tim (Sills) on the sideline as well and I feel he is doing a fantastic job for me,” he added.

“He shares the same philosophy as me and I wouldn’t say there was any decision that I have disagreed with from him this season in what he has done with the substitutions.”
