WEYMOUTH have certainly let their football do the talking over the last week or so and Jason Matthews’ men will look to silence any critics again tonight when they face Bideford (7.45pm).

Three wins in the space of eight days sees the Terras sitting third in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division leaders Poole, seven points behind leaders Poole, who they play next Tuesday.

The recent upturn in form came on the back of a four-game winless run that led to fans voicing their displeasure both at matches and on social media.

This evening’s trip to Devon to take on the Robins who are without a league victory since November 7 comes at an ideal time for Matthews’ troops, though the Terras’ player-manager will be missing George Rigg and Jake Wannell through injury, while Chris Shephard is also a doubt.

Reflecting on last weekend’s fightback to beat Kettering, which followed defeats of Cambridge City and Histon, Matthews said: “The way we kept going and our character stood out for me.

“People have thrown a lot of stuff our way over the last couple of weeks but the boys have shown fantastic character and come out of it with an extremely good win on Saturday when the chips were down.

“It’s that time of the year where you have to grind out results and sometimes it’s not going to be pretty, but it has got to be done.

“The league is incredibly tight and three wins in a week have given us breathing space, but we know we cannot rest on our laurels.”

If the pitch at the Sports Ground in Bideford holds up and tonight’s clash goes ahead, the visitors will start as heavy favourites to record a fourth win on the spin.

But Matthews is aware that in this league things are not always straightforward.

“Knowing what Sean Joyce (Bideford manager) is like, he will know the way we play.

“He is a very good manager and does very well with the resources he has got. We are expecting a very tough game, especially with their heavy pitch.

“On paper it should be three points, but we know that no game in the Southern League goes like that.”

Matthews said Jordan Copp was “incredibly unlucky” not to make the matchday 16 on Saturday but will come in tonight.

Rigg is out for two to four weeks after sustaining a cut above his eye against Kettering which required 16 stitches.

Wannell’s hamstring remains a problem and Shephard (back) is “50-50” according to the Terras’ chief.
