JASON Matthews believes Weymouth will have benefitted from their short spell away from match action and will go into tomorrow’s clash at Hungerford (3pm) freshened up.

The Terras will head to Bulpit Lane to take on the third-placed Crusaders, 11 days since their 2-0 Dorset derby defeat to Poole Town.

And the Terras’ chief believes the rest has helped his squad, who “probably needed a little break”.

He told Echosport: “The break has done us good and there were a few people carrying knocks.

“A few people have played a lot of games consistently and it has given them a good breather.

“It has given us the chance to have a couple of good training sessions.

“We will go into the Hungerford game fresh and we probably needed a little break.”

After declaring himself fit late last week, midfielder George Rigg is expected to come back into the Weymouth squad, Dean Evans is also set to return from suspension.

Matthews also insisted Chris Shephard was still touch and go with a back problem.

He added: “Sheps is still 50-50, he has made a big improvement and is one of the lads who has benefitted from the rest.

“It has given him some extra time to recover so we are quite hopeful that he could be involved.

“Getting Dean (Evans) back from suspension is big because he is a big player for us this season and is the sort of player you need in a game like Hungerford.

“It’s a massive game. We beat them at home and they are a very direct side, it will be a different type of game to usual on a tight and narrow pitch.

“In the Poole game we were unlucky and the sending off turned the game but you get no points for being unlucky and I know that we need to start racking up the points.

“Ten wins from 15 games would more than see us into the playoffs I feel. That has got to be the aim.”

Defender Jake Wannell misses tomorrow’s clash through suspension.
