Jason Matthews may make changes after Chesham defeat

BOSS Jason Matthews hinted that he may tinker with the Terras’ line-up after they suffered agony at home against Chesham on Tuesday.

The Weymouth player-manager admitted his side’s 4-1 loss against the Generals was “tough to take” and that his charges “got found out” with regards to defending set-pieces.

Speaking about the reverse, their third league defeat in a row, Matthews told Echosport: “It was just a bad combination of missing chances and conceding sloppy goals.

“I felt if we had scored the first goal we would have gone on and won by four or five but we didn’t. Then we conceded two sloppy goals and, after that, we were chasing the game.

“It has been our Achilles heel of late with defending set-pieces, which is really frustrating. I just feel that it would have been a totally different game if we had taken our chances early doors.

“As a group we don’t seem to be defending and taking enough pride in our work defensively. That’s not just aimed at the defence, I think that’s all over.

“People didn’t do their jobs on set-pieces on Tuesday and we got found out.”

Asked what his reaction was in the dressing room after the contest, Matthews said: “I was very quiet and just wanted to compose my thoughts a little bit. It wasn’t like us this season.

“I thought we had a little bit more about us than that and it was tough to take.

“We have just got to start again on Saturday, go back to basics and work on our shape in training. Maybe we need to change our shape for Saturday.

“I think that there are a couple of people in the squad that haven’t had a fair chance as well and maybe it’s time for them to get their chance.”
