BOSS Jason Matthews was delighted with the work-rate and togetherness his side showed to overcome Redditch United at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Terras struck twice in the second period to seal a 2-0 victory over their in-form visitors, putting them up to ninth in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

Matthews was also pleased with the way his charges stuck to the task in the second period after a frustrating stop-start end to the opening half.

Speaking about the game as a whole, he told Echosport: “I felt that Redditch were the best team we have played this season on Saturday’s performance.

“You could tell they were on the back of a great run of results but we ground out the win and it shows the togetherness of the team.

“After getting the first goal I felt for 15 or 20 minutes we defended for our lives and limited Redditch to one clear-cut chance, which I saved.

“It was one of those games where everyone put their bodies on the line.

“Mark Cooper had a great game, as did Ash (Wells) because their wingers were both sharp.”

Matthews also singled out striker Ben Thomson’s performance as a display he was full of praise for on the afternoon.

While tempers flared prior to the interval with the score still goalless, the Terras showed great maturity to keep calm in the second period and take the game to the Reds.

Matthews added: “We had a chat at half-time. Sometimes you have to let decisions go.

“I have to give credit for the way the lads kept their heads after what was a frustrating last 10 minutes to the first half. It was an excellent, disciplined performance.”
