Jason Matthews eyes new signings

WEYMOUTH chief Jason Matthews is still on the lookout to bolster his squad as the race to reach the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division play-offs hots up.

The Terras’ chief claimed “I have money now to strengthen” when speaking to Echosport following the departure of Adam Kelly to Salisbury.

He revealed that he had missed out on the capture of an unnamed striker, but did indicate following the 2-0 home win over Redditch United that coach Paul Maitland had been sent to scout a fixture elsewhere at the weekend.

“Paul Maitland went to watch a game on Saturday away from here,” Matthews responded, when asked by Echosport about the potential of bringing in any new signings.

“We have set our targets on who we want and it’s been over a period of time, not just since Adam Kelly left.

“As to whether we will be able to get them, who knows?”

He added: “Some of the targets we have singled out a lot of clubs have come in for because they have been doing well.

“I had the disappointment of missing out on a striker that has played at the highest non-League level for a long time last week.

“It’s frustrating on that point but we move on and be positive.”
