FORMER Terras’ ace Chris McPhee admitted it was tough for him to keep dropping in and out of the Weymouth starting XI this season but did wish the club well for the rest of the campaign.

The experienced midfielder departed the Bob Lucas Stadium by mutual consent last week and has since signed and featured for Frome Town.

And while McPhee admits he is relishing a fresh challenge at his new club, he took the time to show his gratitude to his former employers.

Speaking about his exit from the Bob Lucas Stadium, he told Echosport: “Obviously I wasn’t in a starring role. I was in and out the team and had to fill gaps for other people as injuries and suspensions came along.

“From my point of view it was tough for me personally to get any kind of consistency because of those reasons.

“I wasn’t able to hit any real consistent form or consistent fitness because as soon as Pat (Baldwin) was back available I would be dropping out (at centre-half) and the midfield had done well enough, so I was literally just being dropped all the time.

“For me, someone at my age needs to be playing regular football to get the best out of me.

“The chairman and the manager had to think about their budget and what they could do going forward.

“To have somebody like myself not really playing too much with a lot of unused substitute appearances, it was not really worth keeping me on if I am not going to be used properly. That’s the decision they have made and we had to part company.”

He added: “I have already wished all the boys and everybody associated with the club all the very best. I do hope they manage to sneak back in the play-offs and have the success they have all worked hard to try and achieve.

“I do feel the squad and the management team have a lot of work to do from now until the end of the season and I do wish them all the very best with that.”
