CHRIS Pugsley revealed he is considering the future of his current role as chairman of Weymouth Football Club.

At a fans’ forum held following the Terras’ 3-0 victory over Merthyr Town on Saturday, Pugsley and manager Jason Matthews fielded questions from supporters who had stayed on after the game, and the topic of Pugsley’s future in the role was brought up in discussion.

Addressing the supporters, he said: “I want to get my life back and, this is a 24/7 job, and I don’t want to be chairman of this football club because it takes up too much of my time and it’s destroying my personal life.

“I do not want to leave the football club, I want to stick with the footballing side of it. We are looking at situations at the moment to resolve the workload I get as chairman.

“If that workload could be resolved and other people could take it over then I would love to stay as chairman, but I am not promising, that’s the way it is at the moment.”

Asked after the forum to elaborate further on the situation by Echosport, Pugsley, who has been in the chair since September 2014, added: “I’ve told the board that I want to stand down as chairman and they are asking me not to.

“It takes up too much of my life.

“I have too many people that want a piece of me all the time and most of it is negative and not positive.

“You have to take life decisions. It’s just full on and it gets to the situation, to be honest, where I don’t even want to go to the football club because I know it’s going to be more of the same.

“As much as I would love to stay as chairman, because I love the football club and I do enjoy what I’m doing here, I need more help to be chairman.”

Pugsley did however, stress that whatever happened, he would not be leaving the football club entirely, and would still continue to work with player-boss Matthews on the footballing side of the set-up.

“I came here to work with Jason for the football and I will still do the football with Jason but I can’t give it the time it (being chairman) demands of me,” he added.

“I love the football club, and the people that have been here (at the fans’ forum) are proper supporters, and I love being with them because they care about the football club.”

Pugsley is set to be in attendance as the club hold their AGM at the Bob Lucas Stadium tomorrow night (7pm).
