JASON Matthews admits his search for a new assistant-manager has been put on the backburner – because of the quality of the coaching staff around him.

Mark Molesley made the transition to become a player-coach with the Weymouth squad this season and, following the departure of former assistant Tim Sills, he has stepped up to lead the pre-season sessions.

And Matthews feels the midfielder, who is also now assisting AFC Bournemouth’s under-21s’ boss Stephen Purches, has made a huge impact in his role in the Terras’ backroom staff.

He told Echosport: “Moles has put on all of the pre-season sessions. They have been outstanding and the lads have really bought into what he is trying to do.

“I think he has done superbly. With his contacts at Bournemouth as well he brings a lot into sessions and brings a lot of new ideas, which has made us very professional.

“It is up for people to take on board what he is trying to do to help them with their recovery and their preparation.”

Matthews added: “We have a new training ground this year where we are training in Blandford on a better facility. That also gives us more scope to do more things.

“I feel we have a really good coaching team and they are really pleasant to work with.

“They give me a massive boost because there is so much to do as a manager – I feel that managing Weymouth is a full-time job.

“You need to have a good team around you and I have that team.”
