Evans likely to miss derby test

JASON Matthews revealed that midfielder Dean Evans is unlikely to be fit for Bank Holiday Monday’s Ridgeway derby between Weymouth and Dorchester Town.

The former Paulton Rovers and Frome Town man picked up a knee injury in the Terras’ win over Redditch United earlier this month. The player-manager claimed there is “every chance” Evans will not be included in the squad at Chesham United today (3pm) or against the Magpies.

Giving an update on the no nonsense midfielder’s progress, Matthews told Echosport: “He has made a slight improvement this week but we could not get him in for a scan.

“We will do our utmost to get him in for a scan over the next few days.

“There is every chance he will miss Saturday and Monday.

“In saying that, Billy Lowes and Charlie Davis have been outstanding and we have adequate replacements in those anyway.”

Since Evans has been out of the side, the Terras have suffered back-to-back 2-0 defeats to Frome Town and St Neots respectively.

But the player-boss is keen to remain positive and has called for his side to stay strong against the Generals. He added: “I feel that we are not far away, probably one result away from turning the corner.

“Today is a massive game, there is no getting away from it. We need to go there, be positive and take something out of the game.

“It’s about staying strong. The sooner you get that win under your belt things are soon forgotten.

“Sometimes it’s nice to win ugly and I think it may be something we may need to do.”

Chris Shephard is also set to be absent through suspension today.
