Stephane Zubar joins Weymouth on non-contract terms

WEYMOUTH have bolstered their defensive options with the addition of former AFC Bournemouth man Stephane Zubar on non-contract terms.

A Guadeloupe international, he comes into player-manager Jason Matthews’ squad and is likely to play a part in today’s clash at Chesham United (3pm).

The 29-year-old was something of a forgotten figure at Dean Court. A clause in his contract triggered a 12-month contract extension when the Cherries were promoted to the Premier League.

He was sent on loan to York City in August 2015 but suffered a cruciate ligament injury in a 0-0 draw at Exeter just a few weeks into the spell.

Zubar, who trailled with Dundee United last month, also boasts Plymouth Argyle as one of his former clubs.

He has also had loan spells with Bury and Port Vale.

Confirming the deal, boss Matthews told Echosport: “He was looked at by Dundee United but he doesn’t want to move his family up there and I feel he will give us some valuable experience in the coming weeks.

“He trained with us on Thursday and we will see where it takes us for both parties.”

The Terras’ boss also confirmed that winger Aaron Rodriguez has now been put on a one-year contract by the club.
