Aaron Rodriguez loving life at Weymouth

WEYMOUTH winger Aaron Rodriguez insists life is great with the Terras after he netted his first goal for the club on Tuesday in the FA Cup against Paulton Rovers.

The winger opened the scoring in the 36th minute for the hosts, and was given man of the match too after excelling on the right flank.

Rodriguez has been in and out of the side at the start of this season, but he was happy to get his scoring account underway.

Talking to Echosport, Rodriguez said: “I’m delighted, but it all about getting through to the next round.

“The lads give me a lot of stick for not shooting, and that will be my only shot with my right foot.”

He added: “I’ve settled in really well, the lads have been so good to me.

“I didn’t really know what to expect after stepping up a few leagues.

“The physical side has been tough, but I was expecting that. You can certainly tell the difference from the league I was previously in.

“I had some experience in this league with Frome Town but Weymouth is different, it’s the biggest team in the division.”

In the earlier rounds, the FA Cup can be seen as a bit of a chore for sides trying to battle their way to the lucrative first round. But to Rodriguez, it means the world.

The former Gillingham Town player explained: “It’s everything. These fixtures stand out above any league fixture by a mile.”

Speaking about the next round, he said: “Being at home gives us a big advantage, and Gosport aren’t flying in the league above. It’s the FA Cup isn’t it? Anything is winnable.
