WEYMOUTH boss Jason Matthews insisted “we are in a good place” after his side breezed into the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Terras smashed Hellenic League outfit Brimscombe & Thrupp for six in a commanding 6-0 victory, which included a hat-trick for striker Stewart Yetton, who the player-manager labelled his stand-out performer on the afternoon.

Commenting on the dominant display from his side, Matthews told Echosport: “I felt that we did a really professional job and took the game to them.

“For me, the stand-out performer was Yetts. Not only for his goals, his work-rate was unbelievable.

“I don’t single too many out normally but on Saturday I would single out Yetts for the way he drove the team on.

“He has scored some good goals in the FA Cup this year.”

He added: “I feel the last three or four games we have pressed sides really well from the start.

We did that on Saturday and obviously Brimscombe couldn’t live with that and we got the early goal. That settled the nerves rather than being sloppy and giving ourselves an uphill task.”

Weymouth are now just one more cup tie away from the first round proper and will learn their final qualifying round opponents in tomorrow’s draw.

Asked what a place in the first round would mean to both him and the club, the Terras’ chief replied: “It would be unbelievable for myself and for the club it would be magnificent.

“It breeds confidence and it gives you a welcome break from the league where you are expected to win a lot of games.

“It’s really pleasing, I feel we are in a good place.

“The credit must go to the boys.”
