FRUSTRATED Terras’ boss Jason Matthews insisted “individual mistakes” cost his side a positive result at Kettering Town on Saturday.

Weymouth became the first visiting team in the league this season to come away from Latimer Park with nothing to show for their efforts against the Poppies, who scored three times in the final 25 minutes to send Matthews’ men packing and record their first home win of the campaign.

And the Weymouth player-manager insists a couple of slip-ups was all that was needed to give Kettering the impetus to go on and win the game.

Reacting to the defeat, he told Echosport: “The first two goals we conceded were individual mistakes. You just can’t let goals in like that away at Kettering and expect to get something out of the game.

“I felt our game plan worked perfectly to start with. It wasn’t one of our most fluent performances and I hold my hands up for that, but we were in the game.

“Those couple of mistakes gave Kettering the lift they needed and it’s hard to come back from that.

“I would be very surprised if Kettering aren’t up there at the end of the season. What frustrates me is the way we conceded the goals.”

The result lifts Kettering above Weymouth in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division table, with the Terras now nine points adrift of the play-off places.

But Matthews is looking at the big picture and, despite only recording five wins in 14 league fixtures so far, he is determined for his side to show their quality throughout the whole campaign.

“There are 32 games to go, I’m sure Kettering aren’t throwing the towel in and I certainly won’t be,” he added.

“If you look at our league form, in the last six weeks it has been very good. We need to move on from this (defeat).

“I feel that Bradley (Tarbuck) had a good debut and Stuart Fleetwood came on and showed a little bit of his quality.

“They are plus points we need to take into Tuesday.”
