BOSS Jason Matthews admitted he was left frustrated by the Terras’ eventful 1-1 draw at Kings Langley on Saturday.

The Weymouth player-manager saw his side claim a point when he was targeting a maximum haul against the Kings ahead of kick-off, but the visitors were left to deal with a bizarre set of circumstances for more than half of the game.

Goalkeeper Matthews failed a fitness test with an injury to his tricep, meaning he was not fit enough to even take to the bench for the encounter.

When stand-in keeper Dan Thomas was sent off just short of the interval, skipper Calvin Brooks had to step up to take the gloves.

Matthews told Echosport: “It’s very frustrating from my own point of view. I failed a fitness test before the game.

“I have pulled a muscle in my tricep and obviously wasn’t fit to play.

“We gave ourselves a mountain to climb when Dan got sent off right on half-time but then credit to the boys, I felt with our second-half performance we deserved to win.”

Asked about the red card shown to Thomas, in which the keeper raced off his line and brought down his man, Matthews said: “From my view point, and I was right in line with it, I felt their lad went through offside to start with where the linesman was not up with play and Dan brought him down.

“We had to make a decision and, as the captain, Calvin took the role in goal. In fairness he didn’t have a lot to do but, what he did do, he did well.

“He took the responsibility, came for a couple of crosses and wasn’t troubled too much.

“It’s a good point away from home but I wanted three. That, for me, is very frustrating.”

One boost for the Terras could come in the coming days as striker Stewart Yetton, who has been ruled out with a hamstring problem in recent weeks, posted on Twitter: “Back and ready for action in the week.”
