BOSS Jason Matthews did not hold back when giving his post-match assessment after Weymouth were very much second best in their 3-0 defeat at Slough Town.

The Terras’ chief branded the display from his side at Arbour Park as “not acceptable in a Weymouth shirt” and also admitted his team were “second best all over” on the night, against a Rebels’ outfit whose goals came through a Gavin James double and a goal from Chris Flood.

Matthews told Echosport: “It was a disappointing result and a poor performance. It was not acceptable and I am bitterly disappointed.

“I thought the surface would suit us but we were totally outplayed by Slough.

“We took a couple of big strides forward in the last couple of weeks but took a big one back again.

“Our decision-making right from the start wasn’t good enough and, for me, I felt we showed a lack of passion and it hurt me massively.”

He added: “We conceded some poor goals and, on the whole we weren’t good enough.

“I felt people weren’t showing for the ball and we were second best all over.

“I did not hold back afterwards and the lads know that. For me, it was not acceptable in a Weymouth shirt.”

A surprise inclusion on the night for the visitors was the re-introduction of Billy Lowes to the Weymouth set-up.

The midfielder had been on loan at Wimborne Town for a month but, while that deal is set to be continued on Thursday, Matthews is “not 100 per cent” on letting Lowes out once again.

“We brought Billy in because a few of the midfielders were carrying knocks. I didn’t know whether they were going to be fit on the night,” he added.

“His loan is set to restart on Thursday but I am not 100 per cent on that. I have a few big decisions to make.”

The player-manager also revealed he does not know how long playmaker Chris Shephard will be out through injury.
