WEYMOUTH boss Jason Matthews expressed the difficulty in making the call to let Stewart Yetton re-join Truro City on loan until the end of the season, but insisted “some tough decisions needed to be made”.

The influential frontman, who joined the Terras from Truro back in May 2013, has made a shock comeback to Treyew Road, where he has legendary status, this evening.

The move means it is almost certain that Weymouth fans have seen the last of their former club captain in a Terras’ shirt, with Yetton’s contract set to expire at the Bob Lucas Stadium at the end of the season.

Asked about how the deal came about, Matthews told Echosport: “Truro and Tiverton had chased him and I turned it down for a couple of weeks.

“But I just felt that moving forward and looking to next season, the deal Yetts is on would not be there for him next season, so it has come a little bit sooner.

“I had the conversation with Yetts and it was a difficult conversation to have. He is someone that has backed me 200 per cent in his time here.”

He added: “For me personally I’d like to say a massive thanks to Yetts. He was a great player and a fantastic person.

“Obviously it’s a big decision, it’s one that was not made lightly and was made with a heavy heart. Yetts has been a fantastic player for the club and been fantastic around the place as well but we need to move forward.

“Some tough decisions needed to be made and it was a big one for me.”

Former Plymouth man Yetton had been in and out of the Terras’ side over the last one-and-a-half seasons under Matthews.

And with loan striker Stuart Fleetwood in fine form in front of goal, as well as Ben Thomson on the mend from a side strain, the Terras’ boss admitted that Yetton’s starting opportunities would have remained few and far between, had he stayed at the club.

“It probably hasn’t quite gone for Yetts over the last 15 months and, with the form that Fleets is in and Thommo coming back, his starting opportunities would have been limited,” he added.

Two posts on Yetton’s Twitter page said: “Agreed a loan move back to @TCFC_Official until the end of the season. Thanks to @theterras for the opportunity to lead such a great club.

“I’m going to miss the fans and Dave Tune. But most of all I will miss my great team-mates, who I wish all the best for the rest of the season.”

Matthews also confirmed that Stephane Zubar would be taking over as club captain.
