WEYMOUTH boss Jason Matthews hinted that he may look to try different formations throughout the Terras’ run-in, as a test to see what will suit his squad going forward.

With Weymouth’s play-off hopes over this season with Matthews’ men 22 points off the top five, the player-manager has already started to give the likes of Tiago Sa and Dom Panesar-Dower the opportunity to step up from the reserves.

And in a bid to continue to build for the future, Matthews admitted he will be looking to see which systems prove beneficial to his set-up.

He told Echosport: “It gives us a chance, seeing as we are not going to make the play-offs, to try out a few different systems.

“We will try different formations and see if they come off with the personnel.

“We have done a bit of work in training on a couple of different systems and I think that we need to be brave and try them out in matches.

“We will try a few different things and, for me, it’s very much about who wants to put on a Weymouth shirt next year.”

This afternoon’s opposition in Kettering Town (3pm) also face a tough task to make the play-offs, the Poppies currently sit eighth in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division at present, 11 points off the pace.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Matthews added: “For me personally I would say that probably both teams are disappointed with where they are in the league respectively.

“We would probably like to be a little bit further up the league but it’s not to be and for me, I want some more positive performances and we need to be starting better at home.”

Matthews insisted youngster Sa could be in contention to feature in the Weymouth squad this weekend after being stretchered off against Hayes & Yeading United last Saturday.

Chris Shephard is set to miss out again through injury.
