CARETAKER-BOSS Paul Maitland expects “nothing less than 100 per cent” from the Terras throughout his three-game spell at the helm of the club.

The first-team goalkeeping coach has stepped into the hot-seat alongside player-coach Mark Molesley for the remainder of the campaign, after Jason Matthews’ departure on Tuesday.

Maitland also insisted the current Weymouth squad will be “playing for their own futures” when they host Chesham United at the Bob Lucas Stadium tomorrow (3pm).

“It should not be hard to keep them motivated,” he told Echosport.

“They are playing for a massive football club and they owe it to themselves and the supporters to be professional at all times.

“That’s certainly what I will be reminding them of. People pay good money to come and watch them and I would expect nothing less than 100 per cent.

“Just because Jason is no longer here, there is no reason for things to change. If anything, our message to the players will be that they are playing for their own futures as well.

“You would imagine that people applying for the permanent manager’s position, or associates of theirs, are going to be sat in the stand watching and they will be making their judgements on these players over the next three games.”

Jordan Copp remains sidelined through injury for Weymouth against the Generals, while Dean Evans is set to return from suspension.

Following Matthews’ departure, goalkeeper Nick Thomas set to step between the sticks for the home side.

The stopper has played for the Weymouth first team in the Dorset Senior Cup this season, and was present at the Avenue for the Senior Cup final on Tuesday.

“We will be giving a league debut to Nick,” the club’s goalkeeping coach added.

“He has been on loan at Bournemouth Poppies and done very well for them. He hasn’t let us down in the couple of games he has played in the Senior Cup. It only seems right that he gets given a chance.”
